![]() AMERICAN CREATION is an audiobook that delineates an era of flawed greatness, at a time when understanding our origins is more important than ever. ![]() With eloquence and insight, Ellis strips the mythic veneer of the revolutionary generation to reveal men both human and inspired, possessed of both brilliance and blindness. He explains how the idea of a strong federal government was eventually embraced by the American people and details the emergence of the two-party system, which stands as the founders’ most enduring legacy.Įllis is equally incisive about their failures, and he makes clear how their inability to abolish slavery and to reach a just settlement with the Native Americans has played an equally important role in shaping our national character. ![]() He casts an incisive eye on the founders’ achievements, arguing that the American Revolution was, paradoxically, an evolution–and that part of what made it so extraordinary was the gradual pace at which it occurred. ![]() Ellis guides us through the decisive issues of the nation’s founding, and illuminates the emerging philosophies, shifting alliances, and personal and political foibles of our now iconic leaders–Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton, and Adams. In 'American Creation', Ellis, a historian and a Founder-biographer (he has written well received biographies of John Adams, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson) returns to the style of 'Founding Brothers' for six more episodes focusing on the 'Triumphs and Tragedies' of the American Revolution. From the first shots fired at Lexington to the signing of the Declaration of Independence to the negotiations for the Louisiana Purchase, Joseph J. ![]()

![]() I avoid horror movies, for instance, and on the rare occasions when someone has been foolish enough to watch a horror movie in my house, they usually have to watch the last half hour of it without sound. I can read it, I can be affected by it-but I’m a bit of a wimp. I’m ambivalent, in general, about horror. Thank you for respecting the author's work. The cover certainly makes me think that women are still being treat "normally" and are still "kick butt women" like Riley!Īs the book is set in the same universe as the Breeders and after reading the book I would say it falls into the Sci-Fi, Post Apocalyptic, and Dystopian genres. From reading the blurb I would say the female on the cover is Meg who is a gunslinger. The cover has a post apocalyptic feel to it with the broken down buildings in the background. So of course after thinking about all those questions I knew I had to read it! So I was really looking forward to reading more from the same universe but then I had to wonder if it could possibly live up the the Breeders series? Would the characters be as believable and likable as Riley and Clay? How much will the world have changed? What will the new challenges be? ![]() As the introduction explains The Night Road is the first book in the Second City series which is set in the Breeders universe a few decades on. This was the first Acid Test opened to the public, and the members of the Warlocks attended not necessarily to perform, but rather to check out the scene. Today marks the 57th anniversary of the first time the Grateful Dead, still known as The Warlocks, attended one of Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters‘ Acid Tests, where like-minded individuals would take LSD and enjoy “permissive bedlam” and untethered visual and, eventually, musical displays. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Without the fae to mind them, those creatures roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc.
